What Online School Can Teach You About Dating

Online students learn a lot, and I don’t mean just in their classes. Of course, you learn all about math, biology and English while you are enrolled in the top online schools, but you also learn more than that; you learn about dating.

Some Space Can Be a Good Thing

One of the things you love about online school is the freedom it offers. You don’t have to spend hours on campus, and you get to pick and choose how much time to spend on classes, and when. In a relationship, a little space can be a good thing. Give each other room to explore hobbies and further your careers, but at the end of it all, spend some quality time together.

Flexibility is an Attractive Quality

You probably signed up for online classes because you wanted the flexibility you would have. You knew that with these classes you could earn your degree at your own pace. Just like being flexible with school is a good thing, being flexible with your significant other is a good thing. Be flexible with your time, schedules, opinions and ideas and you’ll notice how much more relaxed your relationship will be. However, too much of a good thing can be bad. Don’t give up who you are or what you stand for.

There are Still Important Dates

Just because you are in online school doesn’t mean there aren’t deadlines you have to meet. You have some flexibility, but you are still expected to be a good student. When you are in a relationship, you are expected to be there for the other person, and not be so flexible that you become a flake.

You probably never imagined that attending online school could teach you so much about dating. But, you might as well get the most of your education and take these tips to heart, right?

How to Cut Your Own Hair

Need a fresh look this spring? If you are thinking about getting a hair cut before the new semester starts or before the first day on your new job as a paralegal assistant, you can save money and give yourself a trim. Sometimes a college student’s budget doesn’t always allow for an expensive haircut. And, if all you need is a quick trim, handing over $20 may not be worth it to you.

Prep Your Locks

If you are just losing a few inches, it’s probably easier to cut your hair while it’s dry. This will give you the chance to see what the end result will look like as you go. Also, cutting your hair when wet can get tricky since most people’s hair becomes shorter as it dries. Start by brushing your hair to make it as straight as you can. If your hair is thick, you can use a spray bottle to make it slightly damp. Just don’t completely wet your hair.

Part and Gather

Part your hair and divide it into two chunks. Use an elastic to hold one chunk out of the way while you work on the other. Tilt your head back and brush the ends so they are straight. If your hair is long enough, you can do this by pulling it over your shoulder and watching yourself work in the mirror. If it’s shorter, you’ll need to stand with a mirror behind you, and follow these steps while working behind your head.

Start Cutting

Hold the ends of your hair between your index and middle finger to mark how much hair you want to trim off. If you are just getting rid of broken ends, you probably only want to trim about an inch off. Now, using hair-cutting scissors, trim the hair using your fingers as a guide. Once you have finished one side of the part, do the same for the other.

After you have trimmed all the way across the bottom of your hair, let it all hang straight down your back. Look in the mirror and touch up any spots you missed.

Cutting your own hair is a great way to save some cash. It also gives you a chance to do whatever you want, without having to work with a stylist!

Swim Suites for Every Body

Spring is here and that means summer is right around the corner. Now is the time to start looking for that perfect swimsuit. It may seem a little early, but the earlier you start, the more time you have to find the perfect fit.

Swimsuit shopping can be, unpleasant, to say the least. We all want to look our best in our suits, but a tight layer of spandex isn’t the most flattering option for everyone. Luckily, these days swimsuits come in all kinds of styles, which are flattering on all kinds of body types.

If You Have Curves…

One-piece suits are usually more flattering for curvy girls. Look for one with lots of support, especially in the bust. Ruffles and crossing lines can also be very flattering.

If You Are Plus Sized…

Look for a suit with leg openings that come down slightly lower on your legs. Ruffled suits and suits with retro ruching will make your curves look stunning.

If You Have Wide Hips…

If you have curvy hips, find a suit that comes down lower on your legs and that has a fun top, like a halter-top. This look will help you look more balanced, and make your hips look slimmer.

If You Have a Narrow Waist…

Girls that have a narrow waist look great in suites with paneling. The structure on this type of suit gives you a nice hourglass shape.

If You Are Tall And Skinny…

If you’re tall and skinny, you would look great in a tankini or a two-piece swimming suit. First, you have the body for it; second, two pieces can help make you look like you are average height.

Of course, there are all kinds of body types, and not nearly all of them are included on this list. But, you can take the fashion concepts here and adjust them to your body. No need to stress. Follow these guidelines and get excited for a spring break away from school and your online classes!

5 Ways to Show Your School Spirit

Whether you attend one of the traditional schools where you go to class on campus, or one of the online schools that offer programs that let you take classes on your own time, there are lots of ways you can show your school spirit. Wearing your school’s colors to games, networking events, performances and any other school gathering is a fun way to get involved with your school.

School Gear

Hit up your school bookstore and stock up on t-shirts, hoodies, hats anything with your school’s name and colors. Most schools have specific brand, which carries over onto the apparel sold on campus. This is the easiest way to show your school spirit; people miles away will be able to see your schools logo!

Raid Your Closet

Go through your closet and find things in your school colors. Pair a blue sweater with a pair of jeans and you have a classy way of showing your school spirit at the next basketball game. Or, go all out and wear your school’s colors head to tow. Use hair accessories, a shirt, pants, gloves and jewelry to create a mega-fan outfit.

Paint Your Face

Ok, this is a little more extreme. But, if you are headed to a sporting event or a pep rally, this is your chance to go all out. Either cover your entire face in bright red face paint, or add some cute paw prints to your cheeks to allude to your school’s mascot. Nothing screams school spirit more than face paint.

It’s In the Hair

Ribbons, cheer leading pompoms, clips, headbands and beads can all help your hair show some school spirit. Pull your hair up into a ponytail and tie it with a red ribbon, or add a cute headband to your short locks.

No matter your personal style, there are lots of ways you can use your outfit to show school spirit. From face paint to headbands, there is something for everyone!

A New Twist on Scarves

Have you ever noticed that the way you tie your scarf can bring a whole new twist to it? For some reason, some knots look more sophisticated and others look a little more loose and casual. Of coures, the kind of scarf you choose makes a difference too. The pattern, color and texture all add to the outfit.

Here are a few fun scarf knots that can be classified as casual and formal. You can find easy tutorials on how to tie the knots here. But remember, these aren’t hard and fast rules, you can mix things up any way you want; that’s the fun of fashion.

Sophisticated Looks

The Front Loop

While loose and free flowing, this knot is a little more sophisticated. It works well with a scarf that has a big pattern and with a buttoned blouse. This knot is also great with scarves made of lighter fabric.

Trailing Ends

This is another great classy look that would be perfect for the office or a job interview. The simple knot looks professional, and the straight, no-fuss ends hanging down in the front look sophisticated. Try this with a thicker scarf and one that is a solid color or has a small pattern.

The Back Drape

With a clean front and a long, elegant drape down your back, this knot screams sophistication. This would be the perfect accessory to a well-fitted dress or a loose blouse and slacks.

Laid Back Looks

The Traditional Knot

This busy, yet traditional, look is perfect for a date or a day on campus. The look is easy to pull off and this knot can go with almost any outfit. Use jeans to dress it down or a cute skirt to add some extra style.

Tightly Wound

Try a close-to-the-neck knot with ends that tuck in for another casual look. This addition to your outfit says you’re ready to hit the town and have some fun!

In Reverse

With this knot, you’ll wrap the scarf around your neck starting from the front, instead of the back. A favorite knot, this looks casual, relaxed and classy.

Next time you add a scarf to your outfit, think about branching out and trying a new knot. The way you tie your scarf can change the look and feel of your entire outfit.

5 Ways With Pink

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away. Are you planning on wearing pink? Even if you aren’t usually a pink-wearing girl, you can still tie a little of the day’s color into your outfit without overdoing it.

1. Wear it on Your Sleeve

If you want to wear it loud and proud on Valentine’s Day, go for a pink top. There are lots of shades of pink, and any one of them will show spirit. To go for a more subtle look, wear a white, brown or black top with a pink cardigan. Or, you can go all out and wear a top with hearts. That’s hard to beat!

2. Add some Bling

If you really aren’t into dressing for holidays, you can still show your spirit by wearing pink jewelry. Pink pearls and diamonds are always classy. Go for a more fun, eclectic style with beads or heart-shaped pieces. Valentine’s Day is all about the sparkle, so just about any type of pink or heart shaped jewelry you have will add just a touch of holiday to your outfit.

3. Accessorize to the Max

Pink accessories are everywhere. Try adding a pink scarf, pink purse, pink shoes or a pink belt to your outfit. These can stand alone or be part of a bigger Valentine’s outfit with a pink top. The great thing about accessories is they can really make a strong statement, or they can send a subtle message, depending on how you wear them.

4. Twirl a Skirt

This is one day where you can get away with a pink skirt, even if you feel out of your comfort zone. If you’re headed out for a night on the town or a dinner date, a pink skirt will let you dress up and do it in the style of the day!

5. Mix it In

If you have a job that requires you to wear a uniform, like a waitress, nurse practitioner or law enforcement job, there are still ways you can include a Valentine’s Day shout out in your outfit. Small things like a bracelet, earrings or hair elastic can bring some pink to a bland uniform. Or, if you are allowed to, break out some pink scrubs or a pink apron for the special occasion.

This Valentine’s Day, try something new. Add some pink to your outfit with clothes, jewelry or accessories and strut your stuff!

$1,200 is quite the price tag for a pair of jeans. But, incredibly, 3×1 manages to sell jeans at this price, and stay in business. The jean company based in New York City caters to those with expensive taste, and big bank accounts.

What makes a pair of jeans worth more than a thousand dollars? The fact that they are completely custom made. These jeans are made of the finest fabric (which is pricey) and made to fit you perfectly. Customers visit the store and get measured for jeans, which are then made specifically for them.

When you make an appointment at 3×11, you meet with a tailor who is assigned to make sure you get the perfect pair of jeans. Scott Morrison, owner of 3×1, explains that the store fulfills a dream he’s had for a long time: making a small quantity of an expensive product to fill a niche market. By the looks of things, he’s found the product and the niche.

For those who can’t take a $1,200 hit for jeans, there are cheaper versions available starting at $525. While most can’t fathom spending that much money on a pair of jeans, it’s amazing to think that there are people out there who can, and do take their jeans seriously enough to spend that much money on looking good in them.

How to Wear Pearls With Anything

Pearls are beautiful no matter how you wear them. They can dress up an outfit or they can take on a more casual look. Contrary to popular belief, pearls can be worn with almost any type of outfit. Here’s your go-to guide on how to wear pearls with anything.

With Jeans

Pearls with jeans is a cute and classy look, especially for a day on campus. Try some pearl stud earrings or a bracelet that has both pearls and ribbon. You can also add a pearl necklace to a jeans with a cardigan or buttoned blouse.

With a Dress

When you’re wearing a dress or skirt for a big day on the job at an accounting firm, you can pull off more flashy pearl accessories. Pearl jewelry that is accented with diamonds and gold or silver will look great with that skirt. Dangling pearl earrings look great with an a-line skirt and a flashy pearl bracelet is the perfect touch to a black pencil skirt.

With Slacks

If you’re wearing slacks while you interview for teaching jobs in the area, try adding some conservative pearl jewelry. While it’s true that you don’t want to go overboard with accessories during a job interview, some simple pearl pieces will add just a touch of class.

With Khakis

Khaki pants are great because they can either be casual or more dressy. To help bring your khaki outfit one way or the other, mix up the type of pearls you wear. Colored pearls in simple pieces of jewelry with a polo top will help your outfit look a little more casual for a day at the mall. Change your jewelry to be a little more detailed and wear a softer top, and you’re set for a night out to dinner.

No matter what kind of outfit you are wearing, pearls will only add to your style. More detailed and elegant accessories will enhance your dressy look while simple pearl studs look great with a casual outfit.

What Do Your Jeans Say About You?

Blue jeans are as American as apple pie and Ford trucks. Just about everyone owns at least one pair, and let’s face it, you probably wear jeans at least a couple days a week.

But have you ever stopped to to think what your jeans say about you? The cut and style of your jeans speak about your personality. When you wear boot cuts, you are saying something much different than when you wear skinny jeans.

Straight Jeans

Perhaps the most simple version of jeans is the straight jean. The leg of straight jeans are cut in a straight line, which gives the jeans a casual, classy look. When you wear straight jeans you are showing off your eye for simple style. But, simple can be better, so add a buttoned blouse or t-shirt to these jeans and you are ready to go.

Boot Cut Jeans

The opposite of straight-cut jeans, boot cut jeans have legs that get wider part way down. These jeans can balance you out if you have more curves, making your legs appear long and skinny. Boot cut jeans tell the world you have style, but are also slightly conservative. You can easily add some funk to boot cut jeans by adding flashy tops, scarves and big jewelry.

Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans are hip right now. With legs that hug your curves and show off your figure, these jeans are one of the hottest types out there. When you wear them, you are announcing that you have style, know what’s in and have what it takes to be fashionably edgy. These jeans are perfect with loose-fitting tops, ballet flats and metallic jewelry.

Trouser Jeans

For a looser look and a more professional take on jeans, try some trouser jeans. These jeans have wide legs and usually fit closely around your hips, then more loosely down the rest of your legs. The great thing about these jeans is that when they are paired with a casual top and shoes, they tell others you are a casual, yet stylish gal. However, add a dressy top and you are telling everyone you are ready to take on the word as a young professional.

What are you waiting for? Stock up on a few different styles of jeans and try different tops and shoes with them to show off your personal style. If you need help getting started, try taking a jean style quiz, which will give you a great place to start when you find yourself in fitting rooms.

What Time is It?

Watches can do much more than help you keep track of time, they can add a whole new dimension to your outfit. Since they come in so many styles, watches can either take your outfit up a notch, or add to the casualness of your look. Depending on the band, face style and colors, a watch can be paired with your outfit to give it a little punch of style.

This beautiful turquoise watch is the perfect example of the traditional watch style. The band is simple and so is the face. The turquoise and silver are a great combination and will bring class to your dressed-up look. With the bright colors and sleek look, this evokes the style of an experienced interior designer. Paired with jeans and a cute blouse, this watch could also be semi-casual.

This is another great example of the classic style. The roman numerals, gold face and brown leather are all things that will never go out. This watch would look great with the jacket and nice slacks you wear to your business internship, or even a ruffly top and dark jeans for a night out. Really, this watch could be either classy or casual.

The relatively new trend of a white banded watch is still hot. This simple look is really sophisticated, especially if the face is decorated with jewels. Since its white, this watch goes with just about anything.

You can’t go wrong with a gold and silver watch. This look will always look good, no matter what you wear with it: a cute skirt or a pair of black slacks.

No matter what outfit you are wearing, there is a watch that will add to your ensemble. The trick is finding the right one, and learning what to put it with. However, once you learn the basics, you can mix and match and create whole new looks!

Add Style with a Scarf

Add a scarf to any outfit and you instantly add style. A scarf takes your outfit up a notch, and makes it look more put together. The great thing about scarfs is that anyone can look great in them. They are easy to shop for, even easier than shoes, because one size fits all!

What to Wear

Scarfs can be paired with almost any kind of outfit. You can top off a pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a cute patterned scarf

and make a polished look. Take it a step further and add a cardigan and some jewelry and you have the perfect school or casual date outfit. Or, wear a nice silk scarf with a blouse and dress pants and you are set for a job interview or a day at your internship.

Choices, Choices

Tassels, floral print, bright colors, silk, cotton. With so many choices how do you know which scarf is right? It depends on the look you are going for. For casual outfits, try cotton scarfs, possibly with some tassels. If you’re dressing up a bit, a silk scarf will look better. With a neutral outfit, you can add flair with a brightly colored or patterned scarf. Or, if you are wearing a patterned blouse, go for a neutral scarf.

Tie the Knot

There are literally dozens and dozens of ways you can tie your scarf. You can see a few pictures with tutorials on how to do it here. A long tie with the ends hanging down in front of you can look more casual while a tie that loops around your neck might look more sophisticated. Also, consider your body shape. If you want to look tall and lean, a long tie can help you do that. If you want to accentuate your face, a loop tie would be a great choice.

No matter what look you are going for, chances are a scarf can help you get there. They add some flavor to an every-day outfit and can help bring some style to your professional attire.

How to Wear a Cardigan

Cardigans are a great addition to almost any outfit. They can dress up a more casual look or they can be cute and simple. Since there are so many different styles of cardigans to choose from, you can create all kinds of looks just by adding a layer to an outfit.

Color

The colors you use in an outfit can speak volumes. If you opt for a more muted look, with lighter pants and a top, then add a muted cardigan on top, your whole outfit seems light and airy. It looks classy and the colors are compliment each other to create a beautiful flow.

If you decide to go with a brighter cardigan, you may be ramping up your entire outfit. Bright colored sweaters can add a pop of color to a ligher outfit, or can add to an outfit that already has bright colors. You can play with different combinations to get different looks. Try using complimentary and contrasting colors differently to make new outfits.

Fabric

Cardigans are normally a light knit. But, if you choose one that is made of cotton, you will get a more casual, laid-back feel. If, on the other hand, you go with a luscious cashmere sweater, your whole outfit will be brought up a step for a more classy feel.

The fabric you choose can also work with the fabrics in the rest of your outfit. Go with light, silky fabrics all over for a more dressed-up look. Cottons and polyesters make an outfit more casual and a cardigan made of cotton can speak to that.

Style

Here’s where you get to really choose the direction of your look. Funky, fun cardigans with a different cut and embellishments can make all the difference. These elements can spice up an otherwise ordinary sweater and make it the focus of your outfit. Sequins and beading can dress up a cardigan while a cute cut can make a casual look more interesting.

You can adda accessories like scars and belts to differ the look of your outfit and add to the cardigan.

Whether you are studying to become a teacher, accountant, pharmacy tech or marketing executive, you want to look good while doing it. Cardigans can help you study in style and then transition into a professional wardrobe once you land that big job.

Cute Coats

Sometimes it’s hard to look cute during the winter when you are all bundled up in a coat. Not all coats are exactly fashion friendly. However, there are lots of styles out there that can not only keep your looking your best, but may even add to your outfit.

Here are three categories of winter coats that are sure to keep you warm and fashionable.

The Pea Coat

This traditional coat always looks classy. In dark colors like blue or black it goes with anything. The collar is flattering and the shape of the coat looks good on just about any body shape. You  can keep this look classy by pairing it with a traditional scarf and mittens or you can spice it up by adding more modern looking accessories.

Some pea coats have fun collars and belts. Big buttons can also change the style and feel of a pea coat. You can experiment with different features and colors to get completely new looks. This look would be perfect for a business person like an administrative assistant.

Keep it classy with a traditional scarf and hat.

Think outside the box and go with a colorful, patterned pea coat.

The Parka

For a sportier look, you could go with a warm and functional parka. These coats are designed to keep you warm on even the coldest of days. But, just because they are hard workers when it comes to warmth, doesn’t mean they can’t have fashion too. Usually parkas have an athletic look, but they can add a touch of style with fun details like fur or cute patterns.

Parkas usually have a hood which adds to the function factor. Ideal for students and busy moms, parkas also commonly have lots of pockets and are sometimes made of water and wind resistent material.

Add some fir and a classy color for a stylish parka.

A more traditional, sporty parka comes in dark colors and has lots of pockets.

The Trench Coat

An old stand by, the trench coat has lots of looks to choose from. You can go with a longer style to create a classy look, or a shorter style for a more updated look. Trench coats come in all colors, patterns and fabrics. The one you choose will help determine the overall style of your coat. Bright colors with big buttons bring a funky feel to your outfit and more muted colors with a belt highlight timeless fashion. This coat is perfect for the next runway model or anyone who loves classy, old-school styles.

Opt for a classic look with a long trench in a neutral color.

Bright colors bring personality to a trench coat.

Patterns like houndstooth can add a touch of personality to a winter coat.

No matter which style you go for, there are so many fashionable coat styles to choose from that its hard to go wrong. Next time you update your winter-wear wardrobe, look for one of these fun styles.
